Design and characterization of metallic glass/graphene multilayer with excellent nanowear properties

Abstract The excellent properties of metallic glass (MG) films make them perfect candidates for the use in miniature systems and tools. However, their high coefficients friction (COFs) poor wear resistance considerably limit long-term performance nanoscale contact. We report fabrication a MG/graphene multilayer by repeated deposition Cu 50 Zr MG with alternating layers graphene. microstructure was characterized transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Its mechanical nanotribological were studied nanoindentation nanoscratch tests, respectively. A molecular dynamics (MD) simulation revealed that addition graphene endowed superelastic recovery, which reduced during nanoscratching. In comparison monolithic film, exhibited improved low COF nanowear tests owing to enhanced lubricating effect caused layer. This work is expected motivate design other novel engineering applications.
